Trans. 88 chevy 454 Honey, Class A Question. Kelley 9-11-09
Im grasping for straws on this one, but, here goes. I start from a stop, trans sounds normal, seems to shift fine ending up in the high gear, Doing about 55, then like clockwork it will shift into the next lower gear, (no hills, flat road), run in that gear for about a minute, then return to the higher gear. After a few minutes it will shift again to the next lower gear. I think you could almost time your watch by the consistency of this occurrence. Can any one out there give me a clue to whats goin on with my trans??

The first thing I would suspect is low fluid; The next on my list would be checking the vacuum modulator on the back edge of the trans around where the trans pan is. If the vacuum line has fluid in it, the modulator is shot. It's also possible that there's a leak in the vacuum line, so when you're at part throttle (cruising at 55) the vacuum isn't high enough at the modulator and you downshift.

Hope that helps!
