Dmetic fridge Dean 8-30-09
I have a dometic fridge model RM 3804 The fridge works fine on ac but when using gas the burner lites but every 14 seconds goes out.the cycle repeats and so on. I have cleaned the burner the burner jet and replaced the thermocouple. The flame is clear blue and the fridge will cool using it this way but the clicking every 14 seconds to re lite will drive a person nuts. The rv mechanic mechanic locally mentioned it could be an ac surge. How so when no ac plugged in. Any one have any ideas would be appreciated.

The ignition lock line is not your problem. You have a bad thermocouple. When the thermocouple does not produce at least 15 milivolts in 15 seconds, the valve closes, the flame goes out, the reigniter senses the loss of flame and starts sparking, lights the burner and repeats this over and over. You should be able to buy a thermocouple locally. If you cant find one, contact me William

William I appreciate you reply. I however changed the thermocouple with a new one and the problem remains.

Dean - The other two players in the circuit are the coil on the gas valve and the circuit board. The 12 volt part of the coil is OK if it will open the valve. The other part of the coil must hold the gas valve open after it produces 15+ milivolts from the thermocouple. It takes a very good meter to check the ohns on the t-cp coil but it would be.2 ohms - but just test for congtinuity - no cont - bad coil on the gas valve. But be sure you have a good t-cpl hook a milivolt meter to it and use a cig lighter - should get over 25 mv on a new one. Has to be one of the two!!!! Board sounds OK--- WH

Thanks William, Not sure where the coil is but will check it out soon. What might that bad boy look like?
Re: dmetic fridge William A. Hendrix 9-2-09
The coil slides onto the gas valve stem --it is black, kinda cubelike, has a white two conductor plug (for opening the valve) and the thermocouple screws into it just above the plug. Make double sure the thermocouple contact (very end) is clean and shiny and the nut is reasonably tight as that is also the ground. Has to be either the thermocouple ( new ones have been bad) or the t-cpl coi!!! WH
