Power Converter G 8-26-09
I have a 7345 Magnatek Power Converter. It sometimes make this loud noise when humidity and condensation sets in the rv. I am wondering : a) does this need to be replaced by a Magnatek / Parallex brand or can it be any 45 amp converter bottom unit (without removing the breakers). Or would my better option be solar power and if so for a 37ft trailer how many panels would I need to operate ac, heat, lights, tv, and other electronics such as stereo etc.. I can upgrade to a 55 amp or do I need to stay with a 45 amp.
Thanks.G.
Re: Power Converter BUBBA THE BUS TECH 8-26-09
Not any tray will work in your converter, But you could convert to a stand alone instead. The stand alone conversion would take me a couple hours. Yes you could upgrade to 55 amps with very little hassle. Solar panels come in various wattages, we sell a RV specific panel that produces up to 110 watts in bright sunlight. A single AC runs at about 1700 Watts draw while running and Some where around 3000 Watts for a second or so at startup. So on a bright sunny day 30 or so panels would run the AC. Storage of power in batteries. My personal rule of thumb is two good quality 6 volt batteries per one 110 Watt panel So 60 six volt batteries. This would weigh about 3000 pounds. Now an inverter, 3000 Watt inverter cheap @ $1500 good one rule of thumb $1 per watt. So running the AC, electric heat and microwave are prohibitivly expensive. If you are liveing in your RV six X 6 volt batteries and between 300 and 400 watts of Solar panel will keep up to a carefull couple in a sunny place like Arizona. But this will rely on you not over using your 12 volt system. My neighbor lives off the described system 6 months at a time. He runs his sat system and TV fridge on lpg, hot water heater on lpg, Computer etc all off 400 watts and 6 six volt batteries. Good Luck
