I have a 1975 Dodge Tioga (22' Class C). The original roof-top AC unit has heat, AC, and just a fan. All three of these worked perfectly until yesterday. I have been using the fan only and last night it would not come on. The unit makes a humming sound when it is switched to fan (a graduated sound depending on whether I turn it to high, med, or low) but the fan itself no longer blows air. It has been extremely hot here and I am only plugged into a regular household outlet, but the fan has been working fine (I haven't used the AC because it blows the house circuit breaker). I will be leaving here in a week and travelling to a very hot are where I can plug into 30 amps, so I can use the AC, but now the fan won't blow....Please help!!!
Jen - you need to determine if the blower will turn. There may be an insect nest, etc -- also Sometimes ther can be a dead spot on the motor. First remove the cover and look for a nest etc. turn the blower wheel to see if it is rotating OK. If all looks OK spin the blower and have some one turn on the fan while it is turning. If it starts and runs, may have been a dead spot. Turn it off and try again without spinning. If it wont start on its own you need a tech to check to the capacitor. If all that fails you need a tech to check out the fan motor. L O LUK
Yea, you can't run a camper on a house rated extension cord. Connected to a house outlet. You're running Low voltage/ampere problems. Hope you didn't burn anything out. Capacitors, motor windings, switch contacts - all could have been damaged. Unless you're VERY handy, let a RV mechanic ck. it out. You're playing with 110 volts, 15 - 20 amps, and capacitors that can jolt the heck out of you.
