Power supply to RV ngzcaz 7-31-09
Getting ready to sell an old Starcraft RV, started generator everything ok. I was
then going to hook up the power to the garage via the thick cable in the back and
noticed the third prong ( ground wire ) had been broken off. Since power tools worked with the ground off I tried it but nothing happened. I then made a third ground out of a piece of wire and it worked. I left it on to cool the refrig but when I came back everything was off and the plug was very warm. When I run a thick extension cord to the RV for power nothing happens, no power. BTW the ground I was speaking of was on the reducer plug to 15 amp service.
Checked fuses and resets, the generator still owrks but not from a 110 volt source.. Inverter problems ? Anything else ??
Re: Power supply to RV BUBBA THE BUS TECH 7-31-09
Hi I don't know what you melted down, maybe just the adaptor, maybe the relay in the transfer switch but either way it should smell bad. I strongly recomend that you get a RV tech or electritian that is familiar with RV wiring to check it before it burns down. The 120 volt system in your trailer is designed to fail if abused rather than burn the unit down but it can still happen. Good Luck
