Class A Front Suspension Bob 7-28-09
I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2005 Fleetwood Terra Class A (21K Miles) wide body with the 8.1 L Work Horse Motor. I just drove it and it appeared to handle very well on the roads and Highways (65MPH), it has steer-Safe installed. Well I have never had a Class A before, and there seems to be about 1 to 2" of play in the steering wheel, as well as a lot of noise (Spring and ratchet) from the front end when turning and backing up. It tracks well and stays straight on the road, my question is this normal out of a Class A with Steer-Safe installed???? The seller (second owner) states that its been like that since he bought it 2 years ago, he appears to be very honest but not a mechanic. Feedback please.......

Hello Bob; welcome to the class A motorhome world
There should be NO play in the steering what so ever,
go to a Truck alignment facility---they should have specs---(call first) for Your MH -have them check Why you have play.

Re: Class A Front Suspension BUBBA THE BUS TECH 7-29-09
The steer safe will tend to make noise, but check the front end carefully including haveing the steering slop repaired. Then you can be sure you are safe. If you get a front end component failure you will be in a world of hurt. The steer safe will help with blowouts and such but steering slop and noise are both indications of a potentialy bad safety problem that can cause premature tire wear and failure. A complete check of the steering should cost $100.00 or less. If they find trouble be availabe to go see them demonstrate the problem before approving repairs (keeps the less honest shops a little less preditory) Good Luck
