Duo therm thermostat Brad Purcell 6-29-09
In order for my AC to run I have to adjust my thermostat down to 55 degrees. The unit runs fine and cools and cycles on and off but the actually temp is around 70 degrees. Is the thermostat bad? Was going to replace the thermostat but not sure of the wiring. The old is the Duo therm analog thermostat and not sure what the wire conected to + 7.5 block is and is the one connected to Gnd the ground? Will any generic analog thermostat work?
Re: Duo therm thermostat William A. Hendrix 6-29-09
The 7.5V usually Red wire is the current from the transformer on the upper control board and GRD is a Ground so a voltmeter between the two should give you 6.5 to 8 volts. The potentiometer (the slide temp adj) is not very durable as it is mostly exposed and easily contaminated. You can try to clean - remove the cover (with all off) and use compressed air like keyboard cleaner, move up and down several time while cleaning. Probably have a 50/50 chance of improving. If not, replace - not very expensive. I dont know if a generic analog will work - havent tried as the replacement is cheap - like $40. or so --- I can provide one if you cant find. William
