Atwood 8500 IV Furnace lights, runs, turns off just like it is supposed to. However, it is giving off black smoke. I think that I need to clean the burner assembly, but I can't figure out how to get it out. Do you have any drawings or instructions?
Hi Tom, Turn off the LP, remove the exhaust tube, disconnect the LP fitting from the gas valve, remove the red igniter wire from the igniter and the black wire, there are 3 - 4 screws attaching the burner to the back where the exhaust tube inserts and one on the curved metal, pull out the burner. Other causes for sooting are Low LP pressure, low voltage(slowing of motor), blockage in the burner, heating chamber like mud dauber or wasp nest, a slow faulty motor. You may find a nest when you remove the burner. Good luck!
