I have a 1999 RV with a chevy 454 big block, there is a slight water leak on the passenger side at the front of the engine. Its leaking from the manifold gasket, it only leaks when its cold. I have checked the torque on two bolts near the leak that i can get to without removing anything. I did get a quarter of a turn on these bolts which seems to have almost stopped the leak, I live in the UK so I have to most repairs myself. Any advise would be helpful.
Common problem. Need to oreder a good quality gasket set for that year of big block. On the web Victor gaskets will work. If you can't find them by application I can find a # that will work. A days work with common Imperial measure hand tools and a very good drop cloth. Good Luck
Thanks for a quick reply I can get the genuine gaskets sets here in the UK. Is there any easy way of doing this, in my manual it tells me to remove serpentine belt, move a/c compressor remove distributor also fuel rail injectors is all this necessary?
PS what is agood drop cloth?
If you want to pay markup at GM go ahead ( FEL-PRO PART # MS95826 I think Fel pro makes an easier to use kit and its cheaper here in Canada by about 50%) Yes all that crud comes off. And as you will be pulling off much of the filth oily crud on top of the engine you will need to put some protection inside on the apoulstry carpets etc to prevent your wife from putting a butchers knife in your ribs. Thats what a good drop cloth is. Good Luck
