Hi!! I have been having a heck of a time with my fuel tank. I have a 1992 Ford E-350 460 Fuel injected motor Four Winds Class C motor home. It had sat for a couple of years and had rust and stuff on the bottom of the tank which make the filter and fuel pump go out. I took it to a repair shop and they dropped the tank, cleaned it, new filter, fuel pump, and regulator. Within 50 miles, It did it again, no power..and no fuel power. Took it to a RV dealership and they stated the filter was completely clogged, so they ordered this Kit to coat the inside of the tank. So, another 810 dollars later, I went 10 miles and the darn stuff they used to coat the tank apparently didn't work, cause it clogged up the filter again, plus some of it got through to the pump, so now they say I need a new one...ugh. So, where in the world do I just find a new fuel tank. Both places says they can't find one, even at a salvage yard. I have spent over 1800 total just fixing this darn fuel problem...any recommendations would be great. Oh, also, can I just get a regular E-350 460 motor fuel tank for a van, or does it have to be a special one for an RV
I would start with your local Ford dealer and see if you can at least get the part number. The van tanks will fit, but typically are smaller capacity than the RV tanks. Your local Checker/Schucks/Cragen/O'Reilly autoparts store carries replacement tanks for some vehicles, so you might get lucky there as well.
I went through the same thing you are, after about a year of searching i just put a new tank in mine from a van, the only thing is i have to stop to get gas more often since the tank is smaller, the tank i had was 40 gallons now the new one is 22 gallons
I have worked on several of these vehicle replacing sending units. I am told by the local Ford dealer that the 40 gallon tank is not available any longer. They did offer a 37 gallon tank for a 1997 cutaway Ford part # 2C2Z9002GA. Hold your pocketbook, the retail price is $1772.42. Wow. The tanks I have removed had no rust damage inside so I must wonder what happened to yours. Good luck.
