My alternator is charging at about 9 on the gauge, so i went and bought a new alternator and it is still charging the same. i know that my auxillary batteries are dead, so could it be that they are pulling down my alternator because it is trying to charge them up. And if i unhook my auxillary batteries would that do the trick until i repalce them, I took the positive cable off of the main battery and the alternator keep the engine running, but the gauge still show's 9 volts of charging. also is there a swith somewhere that i can flip so that it stops sending a charge to the auxillary batteries. Please halp a.s.a.p. Thanks Ron

I forgot to say that i have a 1994 Rockwood bayport rv. It has a 454 chevy engine on a gmc p130 chasiss.

9v on the gauge may mean you have a faulty gauge; what is the actual voltage at the battery? With no load and the engine spinning at about 2000rpm, you should see at least 13.5v at the battery. With lights and full electrical load, the voltage at the battery shouldn't drop below 12.5v with the engine at 2000rpm. You need to measure voltage using something other than the dash gauge. Batteries will not "Pull down" an alternator. If anything, a low battery will cause the voltage from the alternator to be higher than normal (14.5v instead of 13.5v). Hope that helps!
