The unit works great on 120 volts freezer 28 degrees lower 34. When I switch to gas the top gets down to 29 degrees but the lower unit only gets to 55 degrees. I do not supply any 12 volts to the unit, no battery and I do not have the camper plugged in. Does the system need 12 volts to work correctly Thank you Wayne

Not seeing your unit--I would say (yes) you need 12 volts to start the spark--so it will operate the control board and make the unit run-- rich

Your system does require 12v power or it will not work properly your temp. sounds like it trying to cool please contact me for further help
