Duo-Therm Model 57915.622 Tom W 7-28-08  
The AC (Duo-Therm Model 57915.622) in my RV has been working great until today. All of a sudden, the compressor would sound like it was kicking on, but then just hum for a few seconds, and then kick off. When this occurred, I can smell a slight electrical smell coming out of the AC vents in the ceiling. About 10 seconds after the compressor kicks off, it tries to kick on again and repeat the same cycle.

There are two capacitors in the electrical junction box under the roof shroud. Most of the time but not always a failed capacitor will be visibly damaged. If you see no damage, get a tech to test the capacitors. Mostly suspect the start capacitor (smaller one) or the PTCR in line on the red wire. Since you smell something, I would think the damaged item would be visible. WH
