Generator to RV wiring John 6-19-08
I have a 1988 Fleetwood limited 37' motor home. When purchased the generator was not with it. I installed a Kohler model 4.5ckm21-rv, serial # 161519. the plug in for the start/ stop switch is the match to the RV. The generator cranks over, but gets no spark. The wires when the two plugs are connected together have these wires connected together:
Generator - RV

red - Red
Brown - green
Black - Brown
White - Blue

I would say the Red wires are correct because the generator cranks over.
I would only assume that the brown wires should connect together, but the other I am not sure about. Could you advise me on the correct connections?
The person that it was bought from started it just fine without it installed

I just got hold of a kohler 4.5ckm21RV ser #122990 genterator and dont no how to start it. I cant get any fire to the points. when I try to jump it off no fire while it is turnning over but when I let off the jump start and the motor is slowing down you can see the points will fire. I have tried all I can and dont want to burn anything up. Can ypu tell how to set up a way to start the motor safley. thank you. Jimmy.

I have a Kohler generator Model 4.5ckm21-RV that will not start. It appears the coil is bad. The points are making and breaking and there is voltage at the coil primary side as the points open and close, but no output from the secondaries of the coil.
I believe the coil is bad. I need to know the part number for the coil and where to purchase one. This coil has two secondary outputs (to the spark plugs)on the same coil.
Your opinion, please :-)

Thanks

John
