I have a 93 van, i changed the altenator and it still died, so i bought a brand new altenator and it is still doing the same thing the volts drop, now all gauges quit working, it will start with a jump, but as soon as you take off the jumpers the volts drop

This doesn't sound like an alternator problem, it sounds like you have a wiring issue. Something along the lines of a burnt fuseable link or a blown fuse or a shorted or disconnected wire. The gauges have most likely stopped working from a blown fuse from removing and reattaching the jumper cables while the key was switched to "Run", so that's a pretty easy fix.

Other than the alternator, have you had any work done to the van that would touch wiring? This is going to require some thoughtful investigation in the underhood wiring.

Hope that helps!
