If your pilot light does not seem to stay lit, you may want to first try getting a new thermocouple sensor. I the same problem with my hot water tank heater and the sensor fixed the problem.

Hi there I have a unitrol hot water heater in my 1977 dodge lazydaze. I am wondering if any body knows how to clean them? mine lights the pilot light fine then when you go to set the flame I get a noise sounds like to much gas. I see a yellow flame and it sounds like a torch. no adjustment available. I hear the click then sounds like a torch won't adjust. I turned dial both ways. Like I said won't adjust. Either pilot light or the torch.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanx Lee
The leak of gas is noticable by the order. I recommend removing the top red adjustor, which has the pilot and on dial. unscrew the three screws and remove the cone like unit.
inspect and clean it. Make sure there exist no deep scratches or ridge marks.
If everything is ok. use grear grease to coat the unit and replace it.
After that it should not leak. But if it continues to leak, remove the front plat. It has four flat screws and replace the gasket. The gasket is most definitely old and torn. That should stop the remaining leak.
If you continue to experience some leak, I recommend applying compound or gas tape (yellow) to the inlet screw and tighen all screws. Good luck.
Greets, I have a unitrol #10 ARV, serial # C-43025. I need to replace the red knob which controls the on/off/pilot/and firing. It just crumbled with age beneath my fingers. Are they still in business, and if so, where can I obtain parts?? Thanks!
I have a Unitrol Combination Gas/Electric Auto STorage Water Heater. The pilot will not stay lite. Does it have a Thermal Couple? I don't have a service manual. Is this company in business?
I have a 1978 Allegro. I had the same problem. There is a ring( looks like a lock nut) on top of your control. This needs to be turned (I used channel locks)to the point the pilot(red plastic?) will push all the way down. Once the pilot lights and remains burning, you have to turn the ring on around to let the gas into the valve. Hope that helps you. I had a terrible time figuring it out. LOL
I noticed back last year you had a problem with your water heater pilot light not staying on in your travel trailer. I am hoping that you found an answer to that problem as I am now faced with the same issue. If you have any advice I would apprecite it.
