I am faced with the problem of accessing internet while on the road. Although I have not thoroughly researched it one solution may be to access through a cell phone (with T-mobile for instance) and then to download email and otherwise access through a 12volt laptop. In addition to the cell phone a wireless card can be used to pick up at Starbucks and other places that may provide access points.
We are full time RVers and we have the nationwide wireless through verizon on a very basic calling plan, and for a fee of $80 a month we have unlimited DSL(Express Network) and so far it has been great. The only downside is if your reception is poor than your internet speed slows down, there tech support will also walk you through it if you need help setting it up. We are very pleased with it.

Sure do. The work great and the price just came down. My company markets to fire, police, homeland scurity folks and they are buying several at a clip. Many thouands have been sold and are in use since I was brought in to test one of the first. I taught college IT. We don't sell to RVers but hey we can save you some money if you wait until we get a goverment order and include your with that order. The monthly cost is just $99/month. Very competitive since you get high speed Internet service, free email accounts, DirecWay TV connection and a Telephone that works no matter where you are in North American. There is a new high speed wireless service now available. You can read about it at www.rverscomputerhelp.com Just click on "Exciting news about wireless internet for Rver's" in the middle of the page. Larry
The cheapest solution I've found is a non-motorized manual dish (refurbished), and $50/mo service w/ DirectWay. The dish lives on a stand and is pointed manually, so conceivably it can be used on the road or at home. They start at $2500, and there's no need for a tech to whack you an extra $1000 to install it. I haven't invested yet but I plan to as I'm going to be fulltiming by the time snow flies up north (hopefully!) Would love to hear from folks who are using this service.
