Mike,
I think your gonna be in "weigh" over your maximums here...
Back in "72" they didn't make any light weight trailers and this 26 footer is going to weigh in the "robust" side...
The maximum tow rating for your Astro according to the ratings I looked up was #5500 with 4.3L V6, 3:73 rear axle and towing package... I also looked in NADA guides but they only go back to the 80's... Given the fact that the average user will load #500-#1500 of cargo into a trailer, your going to be grossly over weight... In addition to being over the trailer tow max, you will probably be exceeding the Astro's maximum GVWR as well...
My 1999 27' Nomad weighs #5150 empty!!! It weighs #6400+ fully loaded with a max GVR of #7700 and I would be willing to bet that my 1999 Nomad is considerably lighter than the "72" Mobile Scout in question...
I don't believe the Astro is capable of pulling a load like this and that you would be in a dangerous situation trying to do so...
Regarding hitches, assuming you had a tow vehicle that would pull this trailer, you WILL need a weight distributing hitch and some form of sway control... It will be necessary to weigh both the TT and it's tongue to determine what rating hitch and weight distribution bars you need... If I had to hazard a guess, I would think a Class III or Class IV w/d hitch with either #750 or #1000 bars - - but that's only a guess and you really need to weigh the trailer...
